Tools required: 1. Pry out the shift pattern cap by inserting a small, flat-blade screwdriver
tip in between the cap and the knob. See figure 1. 2. Lock the needle nose Vise-grips onto the sides of the steel key that is
inside the knob. Make sure that the Vise-grip pliers are locked very firmly onto
the key; otherwise, the tips of the pliers will slide up during the next step.
See figure 2. 3. While holding the pliers with one hand and pulling up, rap the underside
of the pliers' handle with the hammer face in an upwards motion. See figures 3
and 4. Continue to do this until the key pops out of the shifter shaft slot.
(Try to say THAT three times quickly!) Note: You may need to reclamp the
jaws onto the key if the jaw tips slide upward. 4. Once the key is removed, unthread the shift knob by spinning it counter-clockwise. At this point, you may apply threadlocking liquid to the bottom threads of the shifter shaft. This supplied purple liquid is specifically designed to be used with plastics, so it can be used inside the shift knob threads as well. This liquid cures to a hard plastic, prevents loosening of the knob due to vibration, and is non-permanent - knob may be uninstalled without the use of tools. 5. Thread the locking collar onto the shifter shaft as shown in figure 5. The
threaded end must be facing up. 6. After threading the locking collar down to the bottom of the shaft,
install your new shift knob by threading it clockwise until it contacts the
locking collar. To orient the shift knob correctly, it may be necessary to
back-off the knob so that the collar can be rotated against it. Grab the collar
with one hand while tightening the knob with the other hand. Your Conceptual
Polymer shift knob is now ready to be enjoyed for its beauty and performance!
